Step 2

Piston Bore diameter (D) or nominal seal inside diameter (D)

For new hardware design:
  • If you are looking for available piston seal size for a new design please enter the size of your bore diameter (D).
Our seals are available for any bore diameter (D) up to 100 inch or          2500mm.
For existing hardware or seal replacement:
  • Please enter the size of the bore diameter or the nominal seal outside diameter (D), (both are the same). This dimension is sometimes marked on the back of your seal. Do not enter the actual seal outside diameter by measuring the seal, as it slightly differs from nominal seal diameter (D) and the bore diameter (D). If you can’t provide size information as requested, please contact us.

Enter the size (D) in inches or metric millimeters depending on the measuring system you have chosen.

Example: Inches:  3.250  or   metric (mm):  82.55

Step 3

Radial Nominal Seal Cross-Section (CS)

For new hardware design:

  • From the drop down list select one of the recommended radial cross sections (CS) or if your design calls for a custom size click “custom” and enter your required (CS).  CS= (D-A)/2

                            or

  • Skip (CS) and enter groove diameter (A).

Note: Piston seals smaller than 1.500” (38.1mm) outside diameter (D) are very difficult to stretch for installations. We recommend (CS) no larger than 0.187” (4.7mm) or smaller.
Alternative: an open seal housing design for easy installation and larger (CS).

For existing hardware or seal replacement:

  • From the drop down list select one of the radial cross sections (CS) if available, if not, click “custom” and enter your required (CS).

                       or

  • Skip (CS) and progress to (A)

Step 4

Groove Diameter (A)

If you skipped (CS) you must now enter your groove diameter (A)

New hardware design:

  • We suggest choosing one of the recommended radial seal cross-sections (CS) from the (CS) drop-down box, by doing so groove diameter (A) is automatically provided.

                                OR
If your design calls for a custom size please enter your chosen groove diameter (A).

Note: Piston seals smaller than 1.500” (38.1mm) outside diameter (D) are very difficult to fit for snap-in installations. We recommend (CS) no larger than 0.187” (4.7mm) or smaller.) Alternative: an open seal housing design for easy installation and for larger (CS).

Existing hardware design or seal replacement:

  • Enter the size of the nominal seal inside diameter or the groove diameter (A), (both are the same). This dimension is sometimes marked on the back of your seal. Do not enter the actual seal inside diameter as it can significantly differ from the nominal inside seal diameter (A). If you can’t provide size information as requested, please contact us.

Enter the size (A) in inches or metric millimeters depending on the measuring system you have chosen.

Example: Inches:  3.250    or   metric (mm):  82.55

Seal height (H) H

Step 5 & 6

Seal Height (H) and Groove Width (L)

(Enter either or)

Note:To maintain proper sealing performance, the seal height (H) must be slightly smaller than the groove width (L). It is very important to properly communicate and differentiate between seal height (H) and groove width (L)

New hardware design:

  • Enter housing length (L) based on (CS) according to table.
  •      (CS) = (D-A)/2

  • No input for seal height (H) is necessary, we’ll provide seal accordingly.

Existing hardware or seal replacement:

  • Enter (L) if you have an existing groove width (L)

No input for (H) is necessary, we’ll provide seal accordingly.

                                    OR

  • Enter (H) if you have an existing actual seal height (H).

Note: Information printed on your existing seal can be either (H) or (L) depending on the seal manufacturer, therefore seal (H) must be measured  for correct seal height (H)!!!

  • The recommended groove width (L) will be automatically provided based on your seal height (H). If however, your actual groove width (L) is less than our recommended groove width (L), please let us know. We will then provide a proper seal based on your existing hardware dimensions for proper fitment and sealing performance.
