

The sliding movements of components, i.e. a piston in a tube, risk metal to metal contact, that will damage and score the surface and eventually cause a “seize up,” particularly if the components are subjected to side load forces. Piston and rod, therefore, need to be supported by guiding elements such as wear rings, wear bands, guide rings or bearings.
