3 Easy Steps to Find a Seal

Step 1 - Identify the application and type of seal

A. Hydraulic and fluid seals
For reciprocating and linear motion

The shaft, rod or piston is moving backward and/or forward, in and/or out, or up and/or down. This type of seal is designed mainly for sealing fluids or other media during linear and reciprocating dynamic motions.

B. Rotary seals
For dynamic rotating motion
The shaft or rod to be sealed is rotating on an axis like a wheel. This type of seal is designed either for sealing fluids, grease or other media during dynamic rotating motions; some rotary seals are designed for dry runs of dynamic rotating motions.

C. Pneumatic seals
For reciprocating and linear motion.
This type of seal is designed primarily for sealing pressurized air or other gaseous medium during linear and reciprocating dynamic motions; for example, if the shaft, rod or piston is moving backward and/or forward, in and/or out, or up and/or down.

D. Static Seals

When there is no motion of the mating assembly parts on the seal, a static condition exists.
