Symmetrical Seals are seals whose cross section, when viewed from a cut away, is symmetrical or the same on each side of the center line.
The symmetrical design allows for interchangeability between rod and piston applications.
This permits direct substitution in the same grooves when unexpected problems arise.

All AHP Seals Rod seals are Non-symmetrical.
Non-symmetrical rod seals are seals whose cross section, when viewed from a cut away, is not symmetrical or the same on each side of the center line.
A Non-Symmetrical rod seal can only be used as a rod seal and not as a piston seal. For more information and to check availability, click on the seal profile.

Buffer Rings buffer the pressure spikes of hydraulic systems, they act as a primary Rod Seal, and at the same time, allow trapped fluid sealed by the secondary seal to be pumped back into the system.

The function of a wiper is to prevent dirt from penetrating the system, cylinders valves, etc. The wiper has a wiping lip to scrape off the rod contaminants. For more information and & to check availability, click on the seal profile.

WEAR RINGS (Wear Bands, Guide Rings):
The sliding movements, i.e. a piston in a tube, risk metal to metal contact that will damage the surface and the seals; Therefore piston and rod need to be supported by precision guiding elements such as wear rings, wear bands or guide rings.

Back-up rings are mounted on the non-pressure side of O-Rings or seals to help them withstand high pressure without extruding and getting damaged.

When there is no motion of the mating assembly parts upon the seal, a static condition exists. A Static seal is a seal to prevent the loss of a fluid or gas.
